About me

Let me start by introducing myself. Born in 1972, married with two kids. I've lived in the French Alps since 2001.

I left University in 1993 with a BA degree in History, and quickly discovered that I wasn't particularly employable. I eventually found a job as a tour guide on a floating educational museum, and spent one-year conducting tours for school children, in various ports. See: www.goldenhinde.org. Quite a different experience, life on a square- rig sailing ship. In 1995, I took a TEFL qualification hoping to travel, and set off for Australia by way of Los Angeles. I spent one year travelling and working in OZ. I got back to the UK in 1996, and was offered a post back with the Golden Hinde, as Marketing manager, in it's new permanent home in Southwark, London. Four years later, looking for a new challenge with my partner, we set off with VSO to teach English in Nigeria. We were based in a Muslim girls' school in the North. Good and bad memories. After leaving Nigeria, we had no desire to return to the stress of London life so we headed to France. We finally washed up in the French Alps. I have been teaching English. I went from permanent employee to freelance, then back to permanent, before setting up my own company in 2008. I hope, through these blog pages, to inform and help foreigners coming to live in France.
